Pabadautu shakhson a-khar, kai atafa-khar,

So I became someone else, just to boast

كَيْ أَتَفَاخَرْ	آخَرْ	شَخْصاً	بَدَوْتُ	فَ
to boast	else	people	I looked	so

 

و ظننتُ أنا، أنّي بذلك حُزْت غنى

Wa zonan tu ana, anni bizalika huztu ghina,

And I thought that, through that I'd gained a fortune

غِنَى	حُزْتُ	أَنِّي بِذَلِكَ	وَ ظَنَنْتُ أَنَا
fortune	got	that I	and I thought

 

 فوجدتُ أنّي خاسر، فتلك مظاهر

Fawajad tu anni kha-sir, fatilka mazohir,

But I found that I'd lost, for these are mere appearances

مَظَاهِرْ	فَتِلْكَ	خَاسِرْ	أَنِّي	فَوَجَدْتُ
